The Bridge LGBT Center "Bridging The Gap"

What is the "Bridge"?

The Bridge (LGBTCC), Inc. is a registered not-for-profit LGBTQ community Health and Human Service agency offering a number of social programs and referrals. Our current drop-in center is located at Saint Andrew Lutheran Church on Ganesvoort Rd. in South Glens Falls serving the greater Glens Falls, Saratoga and the surrounding rural Adirondack regions. We simply call it The Bridge!

If you or someone you care about identifies as:

    * Lesbian

    * Gay

    * Bisexual

    * Transgender

    * Questioning

...you might want to check us out some time!

We invite you and your family, friends and allies of our LGBTQ communities to call for further information and please, ask what you can do to help our community center grow and flourish. Or, visit our local drop-in center any Friday evening. See our Calendar.

Beginning in March of 2006, a vibrant full-spectrum of light began to cast its glow creating new Northern Lights in the North Country. We are The Bridge- a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community organization. The Bridge LGBTCC, Inc. is fueled with a dream for health, empowerment and justice. Our actions and programs are focused to improve quality of  life of gender and sexual orientation minorities. We hope to open a full time LGBTQ community center in Glens Falls in the spring of 2008. We are a member of the Council of Community Services of New York State, Inc., and the LGBT Health and Human Services Network. While the Council provides us with knowledge to grow organizationally, the Network helps nurture our growth in professional, collaborative, and efficient transforming work. With such support, we are growing daily and simply.

We reach out and respond to need with a multi-faceted program that focuses on both helping society be more LGBTQ affirming and providing direct service to the LGBTQ population found in Saratoga and north. Our rainbow spectrum shines on a broad path. Call us for sensitivity training for employees/employers and health care/human service professionals or to visit our two drop-in centers for friendly fellowship, information-sharing, education and support. We offer referrals to affirming service providers, AIDS/HIV/STD/HEP-C risk-reduction education and screenings, community education, a list serve, and a gay men`s monthly discussion group in the Glens Falls area- one each for transgender people, lesbian women and gay men.

Our praxis reflects thoughtful consideration of the competing gender and human sexuality theories today. While we continue to value and honor feminist foundations, we recognize queer identity and gender education as pivotal topics of conversation and education in the 21st century. As a unique mostly rural program, we are organizing to more adequately meet needs in northern counties where the impact of physical and cultural isolation is often compounded by lack of transportation and economic opportunity.

Our recent activities have included: Presenting an LGBT perspective at the "Suicide and Substance Abuse: The Silent Connection" conference in Lake Placid, NY and sponsored by SAMSHA and the Adirondack Rural Health Network; Presenting an LGBT perspective at the "Across the Lifespan Consortium" conference and sponsored by the Central New York State Mental Health Association conference in Syracuse, NY; Attended the "10th Annual Alcohol and Substance Abuse Providers Conference" [ASAP] in Niagara Falls; Teaching for two straight years a "Transgender 101" one day class each semester at Adirondack Community College; Serving as a consultant to secondary school personnel, and sensitivity training for a county mental health program.

The Bridge now offers: an LGBT "Warm" Line

The Bridge: Warm Line now open starting Monday, March 17th. Unlike typical "Hotlines" where an individual is in crisis, we now offer an alternative, a "Warm" line for those LGBT individuals, friends and allies who are not yet in crisis but have a real need to just talk to someone who will be non-judgemental, understanding, empathetic and caring. We do not offer advice, but will listen with an open mind and heart. Referrals will be provided as needed. If no answer, call back or leave a message. We will return all calls. All calls are strictly confidential. If you have a true emergency, please contact your local mental health clinic or call 911.

HOURS: 12 noon to 5pm
DATES: Monday thru Friday
